Toronto FC and US national team captain Michael Bradley is apparently attracting some serious interest from Europe, with Goal.com’s Ives Galarcep reporting on Tuesday that TFC recently turned down a $5 million transfer offer from Bradley from a team in one of Europe’s top four leagues.
Bradley is currently injured, having suffered a knee sprain on June 25 while with the US national team at the Copa America Centenario. He hasn’t played for Toronto FC since May 21, but could return in time for TFC’s home match against New England on Saturday (7:30 pm ET; SN360 in Canada, MLS LIVE in the US).
Galarcep didn’t report which team submitted the $5 million bid, but recent Italian reports have linked the former AS Roma midfielder with Serie A clubs Sampdoria and Torino.
Toronto GM Tim Bezbatchenko told the Toronto Sun last week that he regularly receives offers for Bradley and fellow Designated Players Sebastian Giovinco and Jozy Altidore from foreign clubs.
“We regularly get interest for Sebastian, Jozy and Michael – all of them,” Bezbatchenko said. “It’s a matter of understanding that these players aren’t for sale. Again, if there was an offer we couldn’t refuse, then it’s something we would entertain. But for the most part it’s a polite decline – Thank you, but no thank you.”
Bradley has no goals and one assist in 12 MLS appearances this year.
