Lorenzo Insigne! Golazo delivers Toronto FC another win

Bellissimo!

With time winding down during a scoreless game at BMO Field, Lorenzo Insigne cooked up a magical moment: an 80th-minute screamer to give Toronto FC a 1-0 win over Charlotte FC.

The Italian superstar sensed a window of space, cut inside and tucked a rocket into the upper 90. The goal was impossible for any goalkeeper to save, reminiscent of Insigne's glory days with Napoli.

"To do well in MLS, you need your DPs performing at that level, and Lorenzo certainly came in trumps today," head coach John Herdman said postgame.

After scoring, Insigne raced to the sidelines to embrace Herdman, a celebration that speaks volumes for a team that finished 2023 in last place (29th overall) after a turbulent season.

It's a new era, with Toronto undefeated (2W-0L-1D) through Matchday 4. Even more, the Reds have recorded three consecutive clean sheets to begin an MLS campaign for the first time in club history.

"When Lorenzo scored, I just felt that this is what the stadium can feel like through this season," Herdman said after Toronto's home opener. "I think they felt we might be back. We're getting close to it."

Insigne also struck for a stunning winner last week in a 1-0 victory at the New England Revolution, a chip that secured AT&T Goal of the Matchday honors. He's already halfway to his goal total from a disappointing 2023.
