Charlotte FC announced the signing of New Zealand defender Bill Tuiloma on Feb. 16, 2023. Tuiloma was acquired via trade with the Portland Timbers in exchange for General Allocation Money (GAM).
The centerback made four appearances for CLTFC in 2024, two of which being starts. He also appeared with the Club’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate Crown Legacy FC, making seven starts and adding a goal and an assist through 531 minutes. In 2023, the Auckland, New Zealand native made 19 total appearances, 15 starts, in his first year with The Crown
Prior to joining The Crown, Tuiloma spent six years with the Portland Timbers, where he made 112 MLS appearances (107 regular season, five playoffs). He had a career year during the 2022 campaign, scoring six goals and adding three assists in 30 appearances.
Tuiloma began his professional career in the 2011/2012 season in the ASB Premiership, the New Zealand topflight, with Waitakere United before making the move to Ligue 1 joining Marseilles. He became the first New Zealand international to play in Ligue 1, making four appearances with the First Team.
2024 (Charlotte FC): MLS Regular Season – Appeared in four matches, making two starts, totaling 198 minutes. Leagues Cup – Appeared in one match off the bench. (Crown Legacy FC): MLS NEXT Pro Regular Season – Made seven starts and appearances, scoring one goal and adding one assist.
2023 (Charlotte FC): MLS Regular Season – Appeared in 17 matches, making 15 starts, totaling 1,352 minutes. Made his club debut against the New England Revolution on Feb. 25. Added an assist in a 1-0 victory over the Columbus Crew on April 22. U.S. Open Cup – Played in two matches off the bench, tallying 57 minutes.
International: Tuiloma has international experience with the New Zealand National Team, having amassed over 30 senior caps in his career. He has scored four goals for the All Whites. In 2015, Tuiloma captained the U-20 side at the FIFA U-20 World Cup and helped the squad reach the Round of 16.
