WATCH: Wayne Rooney scores incredible free kick, extends DC United's lead

It wasn't technically an Olimpico, but it was pretty close.

Wayne Rooney scored a wonderful free kick mere yards away from the corner flag, whipped into the top corner past a diving Brian Rowe to double D.C. United's lead against Orlando City SC on the road. Rooney had an assist earlier in the match from another free kick, finding Steve Birnbaum's head.

The play didn't come without controversy, as the foul leading to the free kick was contentious. Dom Dwyer lunged at Rooney, though it was unclear if he made contact. FOX Sports broadcaster Alexi Lalas vehemently agreed with the referee's decision regardless if there was contact made or not.

Orlando head coach James O'Connor weighed in at halftime, though not on the initial foul but on contact between a D.C. United player and Rowe.

"I think it's very obvious, it's a foul on the goalkeeper," O'Connor told FOX Sports' Katie Witham. "We're all a little shocked, to be honest, that that's been given."

It's the fourth time in Rooney's MLS career that he has had at least one goal and assist in a match. In his only previous match against Orlando, Rooney registered two assists.
