TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
St. Louis CITY SC have acquired forward Damion Downs on loan from EFL Championship side Southampton FC, the club announced Wednesday.
The 22-year-old US international is on loan through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season with a purchase option.
Additionally, St. Louis acquired Downs’ Discovery Priority from Charlotte FC in exchange for $350,000 in 2026 General Allocation Money (GAM).
Downs broke through with German Bundesliga side FC Köln, making 42 appearances and tallying 13g/6a. His success there led to a transfer to Southampton, where he made 14 appearances before spending the second half of last season with Bundesliga club Hamburger SV.
Internationally, Downs has made six appearances for the USMNT and featured at the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup.
"Damion brings an exciting mix of technical quality, pace and athleticism to our attack," said sporting director Corey Wray. "He gives us a different profile at the forward position and the flexibility to play in different ways. His ability to combine with his teammates, get in behind and make an impact in the box will give us another weapon in attack.
"For a player his age, he already has a lot of valuable experience, including time with the US men’s national team, and we believe he still has more room to grow. We’re excited to bring him to St. Louis as we look to build on our strong run of form."
St. Louis CITY are sixth in the Western Conference (34 points) and are enjoying a 12-game unbeaten streak under first-year head coach Yoann Damet.
