Faced with considerable competition from a slew of key games on the final day of the regular season, Sporting Kansas City's Roger Espinoza seized AT&T MLS Goal of the Week honors for Week 35 with a first-half banger outside the box against LAFC in a 2-1 win.
In the 37th minute of the match, an unmarked Espinoza received a pass from Graham Zusi 30 yards from goal. The Honduran midfielder got his head up, took a touch and unleashed a left-footed laser that goalkeeper Tyler Miller had no chance of stopping. It was the opening goal of a crucial victory for SKC, who locked up the top seed in the Western Conference for the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs.
Espinoza's strike received 42 percent of the votes for Goal of the Week while his teammate, Daniel Salloi, finished second (31 percent). Alphonso Davies (15 percent), Derrick Etienne (9 percent) and Diego Fagundez (3 percent) rounded out the voting.
