New York City FC have parted ways with head coach Pascal Jansen, the club announced on Sunday morning.

The decision follows NYCFC finishing the 2026 campaign 11th in the Eastern Conference standings (42 points). They missed the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs for just the third time in club history.

"We would like to thank Pascal for his commitment and contributions to New York City FC and wish him and his family all the best," said sporting director Todd Dunivant.

“This decision follows a thorough review of the season and reflects our ambition as an organization. The search for our next head coach begins immediately as we prepare for the 2027 Sprint Season and build toward the opening of Etihad Park.”

Jansen was appointed in January 2025, taking over after the club parted ways with Nick Cushing. He previously led Hungarian powerhouse Ferencvárosi TC after several seasons with Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar.

In Jansen's first season, NYCFC finished fifth in the East and made the 2025 Eastern Conference Final.

"We are grateful for Pascal’s dedication during his time with the club," said NYCFC CEO Brad Sims. "We recognize the disappointment of missing the playoffs, and I’d like to thank our fans for their incredible support.

"As we look ahead to an exciting and historic new chapter for the club next year, our commitment to consistently competing at the highest level and bringing more trophies to New York City remains unchanged."

NYCFC will unveil Etihad Park, their new 25,000-seat stadium, on July 17, 2027. The 2021 MLS Cup presented by Audi champions have mainly played at Yankee Stadium and Citi Field.
