NEW YORK (Thursday, August 20, 2026) – New England Revolution midfielder Alhassan Yusuf was voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Matchday presented by Michelob ULTRA for Matchday 21 of the 2026 MLS season.
Yusuf scored all three goals in the Revolution’s 3-0 road victory over D.C. United on Wednesday night (Watch Highlights From His Performance Here). Yusuf became the eighth different player in Revolution history to record a regular-season hat trick and the first New England player to do so since Kei Kamara on Sept. 2, 2017. The three-goal performance marked Yusuf’s first multi-goal game of his professional career. Yusuf is now up to five goals in 2026, which is a single-season high and the second-most on the team this season. The victory helped New England maintain fourth place in the Eastern Conference (33 points; 10-7-3 record).
The Revolution opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when new Designated Player signing Jack Harrison found Peyton Miller at the back post, whose header across goal fell into the path of Yusuf to nod home from close range (Watch Here). Harrison turned provider again shortly before the halftime whistle, locating Yusuf, who easily tapped home a one-timed finish (Watch Here). The Nigerian international completed his hat trick in the 66th minute with another headed goal off of another assist from Harrison (Watch Here).
Yusuf becomes the first New England player to be named MLS Player of the Matchday presented by Michelob ULTRA since Aljaz Ivacic on Matchday 19 of 2024. He is also the first Nigerian-born player to earn the honor since Tani Oluwaseyi on Matchday 4 last season.
Yusuf and New England look to continue their strong form when they host New York City FC on Sunday, August 23 at Gillette Stadium (4:30 p.m. ET, MLS on Apple TV).
The MLS Player of the Matchday presented by Michelob ULTRA is selected each matchday of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while an Instagram fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio, and online media.
