NEW YORK – Mario de Luna's latest transgression may have gone unpunished last weekend, but it did not avoid the ire of the MLS Disciplinary Committee.
MLS announced on Wednesday that the Chivas USA defender has been fined an undisclosed amount for committing an act of violent conduct against Houston Dynamo midfielder Brad Davis in the 44th minute of their game this past Saturday night.
De Luna kicked out at Davis near the sideline after taking down the Dynamo midfielder near the sideline (7:20 in the video above). He was not issued a yellow card on the play, and the Disciplinary Committee determined that de Luna’s action did not reach the level of egregiousness required to issue a suspension.
De Luna was issued a one-game suspension by the Disciplinary Committee in May for an incident in Portland with a ball boy when it was deemed that he aggressively retrieved the ball and shoved the boy late in Chivas USA’s 3-0 loss to the Timbers.
The league also announced Wednesday that both the Montreal Impact and Vancouver Whitecaps violated the league’s mass confrontation policy in the 38th minute of their match last Saturday. The Impact have been fined $10,000 and head coach Marco Schällibaum was fined $2,000 because this is the club’s third infraction.
Vancouver received an official warning for their first violation of the season.
