  • Departing coach: Troy Lesesne (July 10)
  • Interim coach: Kevin Flanagan

Following just over a season and a half at the helm of D.C. United, Troy Lesesne and the club parted ways. Academy director Kevin Flanagan was named interim head coach.

Lesesne joined the Black-and-Red ahead of the 2024 season, replacing the legendary Wayne Rooney after serving as interim head coach for the New York Red Bulls in 2023.

After narrowly missing out on the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs in 2024, following a loss on Decision Day, Lesesne and D.C. struggled to recover in 2025. As of Lesesne's dismissal, they sat 12th in the Eastern Conference (19 points; 4W-10L-7D record).

  • Departing coach: Olof Mellberg (May 27)
  • Interim coach: David Critchley

Olof Mellberg's tenure with St. Louis CITY SC was a short one, as the club parted ways with the Swedish manager after just 15 matches.

He was hired last November, arriving after leading top-flight side IF Brommapojkarna in his native Sweden. David Critchley, head coach of MLS NEXT Pro affiliate St Louis CITY2, was named interim head coach.

Under Mellberg, St. Louis sat 14th in the Western Conference with 11 points (2W-8L-5D). They struggled offensively to open the season, scoring just 11 goals, the third-fewest in MLS.

  • Departing coach: Peter Vermes (March 31)
  • Interim coach: Kerry Zavagnin

Sporting Kansas City marked the end of an era by mutually parting ways with Peter Vermes, moving on from the longest-serving manager in MLS history after 17 seasons.

Vermes guided Sporting to the 2013 MLS Cup title and three US Open Cup championships (2012, '15, '17) while leaving behind a monumental legacy at both the club and league levels.

But with Kansas City sitting last in the MLS standings amid a 13-game winless streak (all competitions) dating back to September 2024, Vermes stepped aside for interim manager Kerry Zavagnin following a Matchday 6 loss at FC Dallas.

  • Departing coach: Laurent Courtois (March 24)
  • Interim coach: Marco Donadel

Laurent Courtois became the first MLS coaching casualty of the year, roughly 14 months into his CF Montréal tenure.

An MLS NEXT Pro champion with the Columbus Crew's affiliate side, Courtois led CFMTL to the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs during his first season in charge of the Canadian club.

However, Montréal parted ways with the French manager after a 0W-4L-1D (one point) start to the 2025 campaign. Assistant coach Marco Donadel was named interim head coach.
