Energy Moment of the Matchday

Matheus Pereira saves it late for Toronto FC | Energy Moment of the Matchday

With time running out on Wednesday night, Matheus Pereira came through in the clutch for Toronto FC.

The Brazilian left back scored a 90th-minute equalizer to salvage a vital point for the Reds in a 3-3 home draw with Orlando City.

In the process, Pereira secured Energy Moment of the Matchday presented by Celsius honors for Matchday 30.

Toronto squandered two leads against the Lions and were in danger of suffering a heartbreaking loss at BMO Field.

However, Pereira ensured TFC earned a result by poking home goalkeeper Max Crépeau's rebounded save on a long-range effort from Djordje Mihailovic.

The last-gasp goal provided redemption for Pereira, whose 44th-minute penalty on Martín Ojeda allowed Orlando to get back into the game right before halftime. It also pushed Toronto to 33 points, three shy of the ninth and final Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs spot in the Eastern Conference.

"You can't let a mistake affect you, and certainly as a seasoned and experienced professional, he [Pereira] didn't," said head coach Robin Fraser.

"I thought he went on and he played well; he obviously contributed in many other ways. That's what I would expect."

Pereira and Toronto continue their late-season playoff push on Saturday when visiting Red Bull New York at Sports Illustrated Stadium (7:30 pm ET | Apple TV).
