TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
LAFC have acquired defender Mark Segbers on loan from USL Championship side Memphis 901 FC, the club announced Tuesday. Segbers will remain with LAFC through the end of the season.
Segbers, 24, was originally selected No. 9 overall selection in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft by the New England Revolution but has yet to make his MLS debut. He had a goal and two assists in 10 matches with Memphis this season. He is primarily a right back.
“Mark had a strong season with Memphis 901 FC and his arrival will be beneficial as we head into the final stretch of the year” LAFC co-president and GM John Thorrington said in a club statement. “We look forward to getting him acclimated to the group as quickly as possible.”
Segbers has also appeared for Orange County SC and Swope Park Rangers (Sporting KC's USL affiliate) during his career. Prior to turning pro, Segbers was a four-year starter at the University of Wisconsin.
LAFC have been thin at right back this season, with midfielder Latif Blessing making a few appearances at the position in cover. Andy Najar and Tristan Blackmon are the two primary options, but Najar left last match with an injury while Blackmon has missed the club's last five matches through injury.
