Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez has already attended an NBA game, sitting courtside for the LA Lakers first game at Staples Center since the tragic passing of Lakers legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna in a helicopter crash.
And if he’s a basketball fan, it appears he’s embraced the “Trust the Process” phrase, which has its origins in the Philadelphia 76ers rebuild before the 2013-14 season.
The Mexican international somewhat borrowed that phrase when discussing the wait to obtain his P1 Visa that would allow him to fully join his LA Galaxy teammates.
“We are waiting for the visa,” Chicharito told media at Dignity Health Sports Park Saturday at the club's 'Victoria Block Party' . “Like you saw already, I’m training apart [from the team]. We need to respect the process. So we’re going to keep waiting. Hopefully it’s sooner than later [that] the visa is going to come.”
Chicharito knows the clock is ticking toward the 2020 MLS regular season opener, which for the Galaxy is Feb. 29 (3:30 pm ET | Univision, Twitter, TUDN, MLS LIVE on DAZN) against the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Stadium.
But he also realizes it’s out of his control.
“I need to be patient because it’s out of my hands and I don’t work in that,” Chicharito said. “A lot of people are doing the best they can so I can get my visa as soon as possible. They are doing an incredible job. Hopefully I can get it tomorrow or next week or whenever. I’m going to be ready with my fitness even if I’m not training with the team. Outside [of the team] I can learn about the idea and the mentality that the whole team and Guillermo [Barros Schelotto] and his whole team has.”
