NEW YORK (Monday, Aug. 23, 2021) – Inter Miami CF forward Rodolfo Pizarro has been voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Week for Week 21 of the 2021 MLS season.

Pizarro netted a pair of goals in Inter Miami’s 3-1 win against Toronto FC at DRV PNK Stadium on Saturday evening, the club’s second victory in a row and fourth consecutive home win.

Pizarro opened the scoring after just 15 minutes. Collecting a pass from Gonzalo Higuaín just inside the penalty area, Pizarro cut back to his left to elude a defender and curled a low shot inside the left-hand post to give Inter Miami the lead (WATCH HERE).

Pizarro then hit for Inter Miami’s third goal early in the second half with a touch of sheer brilliance. Racing all alone behind the TFC backline, Pizarro collected a long ball which Leandro González Pirez played from near his own penalty area. With the goalkeeper coming off his line, Pizarro hit a sublime chip from 20 yards out which flew over the ‘keeper’s head before gently settling into the goal (WATCH HERE).

The goals were the second and third of the season for the Mexican international, all scored in the last two matches.

Also on Monday, Pizarro was named to the MLS All-Star squad, which takes on the best from Mexico’s Liga MX in the 2021 MLS All-Star Game presented by Target on Wednesday, Aug. 25 at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles (9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT; FS1 / Univision / TSN / TVA Sports).

Inter Miami CF return to action on Friday evening, when they travel north to take on in-state rivals Orlando City SC at Exploria Stadium as part of Heineken Rivalry Week (8:30 p.m. ET; ESPN).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
