Chivas USA will be rebuilding once again this offseason.
The club, which finished in last place in the Western Conference, on Wednesday announced that it has parted ways with 10 players, including three players who were regular starters at different points of the 2013 season.
The Goats are sending Mario de Luna, Jaime Frias, Edgar Mejia and Julio Morales back to sister club Chivas Guadalajara in Mexico, and they have also declined the contract options for six other players: Patrick McLain, Steve Purdy, Daniel Atunez, Marvin Iraheta, Josue Soto and Jose Manuel Rivera.
The players who held down a regular starting role in 2013 were de Luna (30 matches), holding midfielder Mejia (27 matches) and former Houston product Soto, who started 12 games, primarily during the first half of the season.
Chivas USA also have a decision to make regarding their head coaching position which was occupied by Jose Luis "Guero" Real in 2013. Last week the club's director of soccer, Francisco Palencia, indicated that the final word could come down in the coming weeks.
“At the moment, we are in a transition phase to see what is most important for the club,” Palencia told MLSsoccer.com on Nov. 14. “It would not be ethical for me to comment on the coaching situation now given that we have ‘Guero’ as our coach.
"We’ll reunite in Guadalajara with ‘Guero,’ Dennis [te Kloese] and the owner, Mr. Jorge Vergara, and we’ll come to decision so the team here can have a plan."
